Nic Plume has written a convincing yet sensitive story about post traumatic stress and suicide set in the future but with implications today. If I were king, I’d implement the book’s comprehensive psychological support system as well as change the current up-or-out (promotion or discharge) Napoleonic-era personnel system to one allowing soldiers to move up and down ranks or stay at a rank or job that is personally best for them.

A good story dealing the the psychology of soldiers; PTSD, survivors guilt and combat stress- but also the Brotherhood of Warriors and the support that brings. Healing cannot happen in a vacuum.

This book was actually quite hard to put down. The story is - on the surface - a simple one, but the author does an excellent job of putting the reader into the main character's mind. The story has several layers, and it is told by someone who is really good at all the minor and elaborate details that makes a story compelling, as well as showcasing that she actually puts a lot of effort into the character building and thought processes.
